Byzantine Crucifixion
Every time I see a 12th century crucifixion, I am struck by the shape of Jesus’ abdominal muscles, even though absolute chastity was preached at that time. It must be my sick mind, dominated by impure thoughts. Would my faithful reproduction in the Byzantine style have been accepted in ancient times, or would the artist have been burned at the stake for heresy?

Ogni volta che vedo una crocifissione del dodicesimo secolo, rimango colpito dal vigore muscolare addominale di Gesù. Eppure, i tempi predicavano pudica castità. Sarà allora colpa della mia mente malata e dominata da pensieri impuri? Gli antichi avrebbero accettato la mia fedele riproduzione in stile bizantino o l’artista sarebbe finito sul rogo per eresia?
Byzantinische Kreuzigung
Jedes Mal, wenn ich eine Kreuzigung aus dem 12. Jahrhundert sehe, bin ich von der Form der Bauchmuskeln von Jesus beeindruckt, obwohl damals absolute Keuschheit gepredigt wurde. Es wird wohl an meinem kranken Geist liegen, der von unreinen Gedanken dominiert wird. Wäre in der Antike meine originalgetreue Reproduktion im byzantinischen Stil akzeptiert worden oder wäre der Künstler wegen Häresie auf dem Scheiterhaufen gelandet?
